Urban Eden featuring the art of Jason Cornish is now open at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer. The show runs through Saturday, Sept. 1. The public will be able to meet and engage with the artist at a free reception August 25 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Detroit area artist Jason Cornish is no stranger to Lapeer, or Gallery 194. He has been teaching Plein Air and Studio Oil Painting classes at the gallery for several years and was a featured artist in the main gallery in 2009. Urban Eden invites visitors to Gallery 194 to share in Jason’s exploration of all things industrial and their impact on the environment. Using Metro Detroit as a backdrop, Jason attempts to shine light on the re-birth that is currently hatching there.
“The historical rise and fall of Detroit may be a cautionary tale for the rest of the nation, yet it abounds with inspiration and opportunity,” says Cornish. “In fact, as nature re-establishes itself in the remains of human ‘progress,’ there is a plethora of inspirational snapshots which can offer guidance and motivation to rise from the ashes.” Where others might see destruction and decay, Jason sees the existence of life and growth.
Urban Eden at Gallery 194 will also offer viewers something unique. Visitors to Gallery 194 will be the first to see a sampling of what’s to come from Jason. He has provided the gallery with a few pieces that are unfinished.
“The gallery will become Jason’s studio away from home. He will be stopping in through out the duration of the show to work on these unfinished pieces providing visitors an opportunity to see these new works take shape, transform, and flourish, ” explains gallery manager James Alt. Visitors are encouraged to stop back often to see the new developments that emerge. Included in the unfinished works is a spectacular 4′ x 4′ canvas that Jason will be working on during the special meet the artist reception on August 25th.
Jason’s artwork has been exhibited at the People’s Arts Festival in Detroit, the Detroit Artists’ Market, the Ann Arbor Art Center all media exhibition, Gallery 194, Buckham Gallery, Paint Creek Art Center for the Arts and with the Lapeer Art Association. He works full time out of his art studio in Troy, MI and teaches oil and Plein Aire painting at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer.
Urban Eden featuring the art of Jason Cornish will be on display for the public to enjoy through September 1st at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer. Gallery 194 is located at the corner of Court and West Nepessing Streets in downtown Lapeer next to the historic Pix Theater and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is always free and open to the public.
