weekend roaming

Run. Tend to life’s necessities. Think. Overthink. Start over. Think new.

Iced mocha at Zuma in Birmingham. Of course, had to visit Borders to see how things look now. And they have definitely changed. With everything on sale and going away, it kind of forced me to look at the books a little differently. I realized there were so many things you would just never find online. Sure you can browse, but it’s not the same experience at all.

Discovered just a totally amazing book on Street Art – simply incredible. Another one on Jackson Pollock was totally a steal. I could browse the art section all day.

And what about those magazines? Where are you going to find those? I don’t think the drug store’s gonna pick up the slack and start stocking The Atlantic or Fast Co.

Buildings are under construction in Birmingham, which is also home to a very, very busy downtown with plenty of eclectic storefronts and a gazillion restaurants and galleries. It’s really quite amazing, it’s like a world away, but it’s just an hour from Lapeer.

Then, stopping in Lake Orion, was startled by all the hubbub there as well, almost difficult to find a parking spot, people strolling all over the place or lined up waiting to get into Sagebrush. Sidewalks torn up where they’re sprucing things up with brick walks. Several obvious destination restaurants, a yoga place, a running store, ice cream, and people, lots of people. Very nice to see all the activity there.

What’s the difference?
